“Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics” UAB in cooperation with Vilnius University invites prospective first year master students from VU Life Sciences Center, Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics to prepare Master final thesis at the Company.

Favorite students selected to prepare Master final thesis at the Company will receive Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics nominal scholarship of 2200 Eur per single academic year. VU students who prepare the final thesis at the Company for two academic years and if study results do not worsen, are entitled for a second-year scholarship, therefore total scholarship would amount up to 4400 Eur*.

The Laser Nanophotonics Group, led by Prof. Mangirdas Malinauskas (Vilnius University, Faculty of Physics, Laser Research Center), has published an educational article on the theoretical and practical fundamentals of laser-based 3D multiphoton lithography and applied methodologies. This guide has been published in the prestigious journal Nature Reviews Methods Primers in collaboration with the pioneer of two-photon polymerization, Prof. Shoji Maruo (Yokohama University), the esteemed Prof. Georg von Freyman (Kaiserslautern University), and the remarkable Prof. Julia Greer (California Institute of Technology). Among the authors are also Dr. Edvinas Skliutas (Faculty of Physics, alumnus) and Dr. Greta Merkininkaitė (Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, VU). The combined expertise of all authors in the field exceeds 100 years.

About the project

The two-year postdoc fellowship project will focus on developing next-generation bioceramic composites for periodontal disease prevention and clinical applications. Research will be carried out under the supervision of assoc. prof. dr. Inga Grigoravičiūtė.

The 2025 call specifically aims to encourage such university-created R&D solutions that contribute to one or more of the 17 goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and/or to the European Green Deal, which aims to implement the green transformation and ensure climate neutrality in the long run.

The targeted proof-of-concept activities of R&D solutions are:

• development and testing of a technology, model and/or prototype;
• testing of a technology, model and/or prototype when imitating real conditions.

One application can be awarded the sum of 5 000 to 20 000 EUR.

The deadline for the applications is the 3rd of February, 2025.
