The student prepares the final thesis honestly and independently. The principles of academic honesty in scientific activities and signs of plagiarism are outlined in items 18 and 19 of the Vilnius University Code of Academic Ethics.
Submission of Theses to VUSIS and Warranty
The submission of the final thesis and its metadata to VUSIS is carried out in accordance with the description of the procedure for the administration of research papers in Vilnius University study information system.
If the final thesis contains appendices, they must be combined with the main part of the work, and only one PDF document should be uploaded to VUSIS.
Students whose theses will be defended in a closed defence will be informed separately by email about the requirements for uploading their thesis to VUSIS.
The warranty can only be completed after the thesis has been uploaded to VUSIS. By completing the warranty, the student confirms that the thesis has been prepared independently and honestly. The warranty also includes a request to indicate whether an embargo period is required for the thesis. The need for an embargo and its duration (not exceeding 36 months) must be agreed upon with the supervisor.
The thesis must be uploaded to VUSIS no later than 10 working days before the final thesis defense.
A printed copy of the thesis and the warranty are not submitted to the department.
Authorization of Supervisor to Defend the Thesis
The final thesis may be defended only if the supervisor confirms that the thesis has been properly prepared, is written in correct language, and meets all the requirements for final theses.
After the student uploads the final thesis to VUSIS, the supervisor checks the originality of the thesis using EPAS (Electronic Plagiarism Detection Subsystem). The system generates a report indicating the percentage of similarity between the submitted thesis and other electronic documents. If significant similarities are not detected, the supervisor allows the thesis to be defended. If plagiarism is detected, the thesis cannot be defended, and the Study Department is informed of the violation.
The supervisor’s decision to allow the thesis defence is confirmed in VUSIS by marking the corresponding option (“allowed” / “not allowed”) no later than 6 working days before the final thesis defense.
