Chemistry and geosciences have been important disciplines at Vilnius University since the 18th century. Following the merger of two faculties, a new Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences (FCHG) was established on November 14, 2016. The Faculty consists of two institutes: the Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Geosciences.

The Dean of the Faculty is Prof. Dr. Justina Gaidukevič. The Head of the Institute of Chemistry is Prof. Dr. Simas Šakirzanovas, the Head of the Institute of Geosciences is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laurynas Jukna.

Teaching staff:

Research staff:

  • 33 chief researchers;
  • 25 senior researchers;

  • 25 research assistants;
  • 7 research trainees.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, the following are studying at the Faculty:

  • around 650 students in bachelor's degree programs;
  • around 200 students in master's degree programs;
  • around 20 exchange program students;
  • 58 doctoral students are preparing their dissertations – 40 in the Institute of Chemistry, 18 in the Institute of Geosciences.
