From June 28 to July 1, the international conference "Balticum Organicum Syntheticum 2026" (BOS 2026) was held in Tallinn, Estonia. There, Martyna Paulauskaitė and Urtė Milerytė, students of Vilnius University's (VU) Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences (FCHG), won two awards for their poster presentations.

Martyna Paulauskaitė received the Science of Synthesis Best Poster Prize for her work "Electrophile-promoted cyclization of 2-alkenylthioimidazoles for the synthesis of imidazo[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine derivatives" (supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ieva Žutautė).

Urtė Milerytė was awarded the ACS Publications Best Poster Award for her research "Research on cyclization pathways of 1-alkynyl-2-thiobenzimidazoles under various reaction conditions" (supervisor – Dr. Rita Bukšnaitienė).

Doctoral student Jonas Žurauskas also excelled at the conference. His poster abstract was selected as one of the best out of 140 submissions, earning him the opportunity to present his results in a flash presentation format. Research topic: "A General Photoredox C–H Arene Functionalization Towards Substituted Methyls" (supervisor – Prof. Dr. Edvinas Orentas).

We are proud of our students and wish them continued success in their future research!

The abstracts of all conference participants can be found in the conference's book of abstracts.
