Vilnius University Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences student Augustas Reikertas, studying Cartography and GIS, has been named one of this year’s winners of the Esri Young Scholars Award. This summer, he represented Vilnius University at the global Esri User Conference in San Diego, USA, where he presented his project “Cemeteries as Urban Green Spaces.”

The conference brought together GIS professionals, researchers, students and technology experts from around the world. Augustas had the opportunity not only to present his work to an international audience, but also to meet fellow Young Scholars from other countries and Jack Dangermond, co-founder of Esri.

“I brought back from California not only a suntan and some extra vitamin D, but also new connections, impressions and ideas. One of the most valuable experiences at the conference was the opportunity to meet and talk with winners from other countries and to look at my own work from a different perspective,” Augustas says.

Held annually in San Diego, the Esri User Conference brings together the global GIS community to exchange knowledge, discover new developments and explore the possibilities of geographic information systems. The Esri Young Scholars Award gives university students an opportunity to showcase outstanding projects in which they apply GIS and ArcGIS technologies.
